Cold and Dry...

The storms passed in the overnight and now we have temperatures in the thirties for today and Friday and will have lows in the teens the next couple of nights too. Warming to more seasonal 50's by Saturday. Nothing too exciting in our future.

Storms Approaching

A line of thunderstorms are approaching. It looks like some strengthening in the line which should arrive about 10:30 PM.

Today's Severe Weather

Yesterday was not as severe was expected so it doesn't surprise me the SPC stays with a slight risk and backs off from the northern portion of the earlier risk area. I still wouldn't be surprised to see a thunderstorm or two get warnings up in our neck of the state later today.

Severe Weather Tuesday

Heavy rain is possible Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. We will be on the eastern edge of the severe weather threat. Much of central Illinois looks to be hot spot for the main action and storms will track over our way during the day into the evening. Much of the day will need watching as things develop.

EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 255 PM UNTIL 800 PM EDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

DISCUSSION...VERY DYNAMIC SITUATION THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING ACROSS WW AS VERY STRONG UPPER SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED 90+ KT MID LEVEL/55+ KT H85 JETS EJECT ACROSS THIS REGION. SURFACE WARM FRONT WILL LIKELY BE LIFTED SLIGHTLY NWD THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON AS LOW CENTER DEEPENS INTO SRN LAKE MI. DESPITE THE LIMITED INSTABILITY...DEEP ASCENT ALONG AND AHEAD OF SURFACE COLD FRONT SHOULD SUSTAIN SEMI-DISCRETE LINE OF SUPERCELLS/SMALL BOW ECHOES MOVING RAPIDLY ENEWD THROUGH THE EARLY TO MID EVENING. It looks like a watch is very possible for our area this afternoon. Storms have been across IL and MO and produced numerous wind, hail, and tornado reports. The sun is out now which should help make an already unstable atmosphere even more unstable.

Severe Weather For Sunday

It looks like it could be an interesting day if you like severe weather. A Moderate Risk across portions of Indiana and Illinois plus a Tornado Watch for the counties south and west.

In light of the possible severe weather today, I have canceled my basketball game in Indianapolis for this afternoon and evening.

Severe weather looks very possible on Sunday across our region. Even later this afternoon and tonight could see some isolated possibilities.


I want to apologize for the brief write up. I do freelance sports photography and have been rather busy this entire week with High School Basketball (Boys Sectionals and Girls State Finals) and the Women's Big Ten Tournament. When finished, I think I will have covered 13 games and shot 3000 to 4000 photos.

There have been reports of Gravity Waves which bring high winds and snow rates of 5" per hour in this storm! Wow!

Big Snow Storm Underway

Just take a peek at the Winter Storm Warnings running up from the South thru New England. Some portions of Tennessee have seen 12 to 16 inches of snow from the storm. Even portions of Mississippi have reported 4 inches and there is thundersnow reported in Atlanta.
