More Weather To Come...

I know it has seemed like I have abandoned the weather blog but work/life has been in full tilt for the past couple of months. At least the weather was pretty quiet during my busy time. In fact, it still looks pretty quiet for the future.

I am beginning to be concerned about our lack of rain. We have had only 5 days of measurable precipitation in August. We have 2.51 inches of total rain for the month. If we didn't have a lot of rain in April and May, we would be in drought conditions for sure.

I would like to mention Hurricane Gustav. It looks to be devestating to the Gulf Coast region. Kep track here - http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml#GUSTAV I am sure I will post more about it later.

Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Severe Thunderstorm Watch

I have been quiet all day in regards to the threat of severe weather. Yesterday there a pretty good set up to our north and west and it never panned out. That bust made many of us including the SPC take today's set up and remain more cautious.

However the SPC did an upgrade to Moderate Risk for our area and north and northwest. The also have issued a PDS Thunderstorm Watch for areas north. A developing storm system near Chicago is producing very strong winds, dangerous lightning, and hail. The watch indicates gusts to 90 MPH and 2" hail is possible besides the threat of tornadoes.

Be alert for the next few hours and let's see if this moves our way.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for the Overnight

It looks to be a long night for the central Indiana area. Severe thunderstorms are forming across the region and small scale bow echo events look possible. Wind and hail are the largest threats.

Slight Risk For Friday

We are on the western edge of a slight risk for today. The better probabilities are more over Ohio and a sliver of eastern Indiana. Doubtful this will be a widespread event. Look for thinks to start locally in the middle afternoon.

The weekend will be the start of a heat wave lasting through the middle of next week. Temperatures will be in the 90's for the first few days next week with heat indexes over 100. Anyone outside needs to keep hydrated with particular attention to those starting fall sport training or marching band practices.

New SLight Risk For Today

Tonight looks like some potential storms could dive into the area and bring a wind and hail threat.

Slight Risk Friday

It looks like a slight risk for severe weather is currently forecast for Friday. Unidirectional winds should keep the tornado risk to a minimum but strong straight line winds and hail along with pockets of heavy rains and could to ground lightning are very possible.

Strong Weather Approaching

It looks like some strong weather will be coming into the state tonight. No watches will likely be issued but a possible isolated severe thunderstorm could pop up before this is all over.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for the Overnight

It has been an interesting few days watching the severe weather virtually split Howard County. Even today's morning storms skirted north or wait to become severe when it was just east of us in Grant County.

However this evening into the overnight has some of the best severe conditions we have seen in more than a month, maybe more. The good news is the worst should be in Illinois and may make a slide south of our area with the heaviest stuff.

We have a couple of hours before the storms begin here so take a moment check the batteries in the weather radio. You might need it before the night is over.

Thunderstorm Hits Kokomo

An isolated afternoon thunderstorm is moving across Howard County around 4 PM today.
