9:20 AM - ICE STORM WARNING FOR MUCH OF NORTHERN CENTRAL INDIANA

An Ice Storm Warning is in effect until 1200 PM today and includes the cities of Lafayette, Kokomo, Frankfort, Crawfordsville, Anderson and Muncie.

More than one quarter of an inch of icing is expected at this time.

A warm front will approach Indiana today and push warmer and moist air across Indiana. This warm air will rise above cold air that will be in place on the ground and generate rain. In areas where the tempertaures are below freezing, this will result in freezing rain and icing.

The freezing rain may be heavy at times, accompanied with thunder. Any heavy freezing rain will result in a quick icing of roads and surfaces, making travel very difficult.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing this afternoon. When this occurs, it will end the freezing rain and ice accumulations.

Stay Alert to the latest forecasts today and be prepared for freezing rain in the northern part of central Indiana.
